SHORT DESCRIPTION: A monument to ingenuity and technical progress, a "cathedral of scientific knowledge", this power station once provided energy and now stands as a testament to the bond between man and water.
Built in the early 20th century, the power plant provided public lighting for the San Marco area of Venice. The station was powered by the water of the Cellina stream, diverted thanks to the work of more than two thousand people including miners, stonemasons, bricklayers, carpenters, wheelbarrow pushers and female porters. Inside the building, the four giant Francis turbines that powered the station are still on display.
