SHORT DESCRIPTION: Palazzo Toffoli, a 17th century building of great artistic and architectural value, houses the Municipal Library and the Archaeological Museum of Montereale Valcellina. The museum exhibits finds from excavations carried out in the last two decades of the 20th century and studied since then.
The Superintendence for the Archaeological Heritage of Friuli Venezia Giulia coordinated the excavation of a series of artifacts that show that this area has been continuously inhabited since the Late Bronze Age (14th century B.C.) until today, with periods of higher and lower intensity. Among the various phases of occupation of the site, a settlement of the 5th century B.C. stands out, of which the so-called Casa dei Dolii (Latin for "House of Jars") has been rediscovered. Swords and arms offered in tribute to the watercourses, large decorated vases, traces of ancient dwellings, handcrafted objects and metal ornaments are all relics that take us on a journey to a distant past
.
